The casements window is an extremely versatile design; the wide range of ways that it can be configured include top, bottom and side hung sashes; and it can be installed as a single frame, or frames can be connected to create bay/bow window styles.

WHAT ARE CASEMENT WINDOWS?

A casement is a window that is attached to it’s frame by one or more hinges. They are easy to open and close because they use single-lever latches or tandem latches.

WHY USE CASEMENT WINDOWS?

Casement windows are the second most energy-efficient, after fixed-pane windows. The window sash presses against the frame on closing, creating an airtight seal which helps prevent air entry and leakage. Casement windows also offer excellent ventilation because they can open all the way outward.

SASH WINDOWS (VERTICAL SLIDERS)

Sash windows, or vertical sliders, combine traditional charm with the high performance of a modern UPVC window. Run through sash horns, astragal bars and natural look woodgrain finishes provide the classic details of a timber sash window. It’s easy to operate and has a multi-tilt opening function for ease of cleaning.

HOW DO SASH WINDOWS WORK?

A traditional sliding sash window is usually made up of two sashes that slide up and down, one in front, and one behind, in vertical grooves, counterbalanced by springs (lead weights on cords were used in the old timber sash windows). Sliding sash windows can be opened at the top or bottom, or both, depending on the design and the modern designs tilt in and out for easy cleaning.

ARE SASH WINDOWS SECURE?

Window Workshop fit high security locks that are insurance approved and meet the current British standards.

SASH WINDOWS FOR PERIOD PROPERTIES

Window Workshop also specialise in fitting bespoke timber sash windows. Genuine timber sash windows are likely to be the first and only choice for those living in either a conservation area or a listed building. You sometimes simply cannot achieve the same effect with plastic.

Tilt & Turn windows and doors have been the standard in Germany and other European countries for the past 40 years. Transferable across both modern and traditional properties, they combine functionality with Security. All functions are one-handed, one move operated. It’s smooth, easy and safe. The multi-point locking mechanism keeps the sash/frame from twisting or bending and the turn & tilt hardware allows the window to open completely for a clear exit in an emergency. The clever tilt and turn function also provides you with ventilation without compromising your safety or security.

ARE TILT & TURN WINDOWS EASY TO CLEAN?

These windows are frequently used in high rise buildings where it is difficult to clean the outside of a normal window. The 180˚ tilt operation allows for the side hinges to open the tilt and turn window completely to provide easy outside cleaning, inside.

ARE TILT & TURN WINDOWS MORE EXPENSIVE?

Our Tilt and Turn windows can be tailored to your requirements including the colour, glazing and security options at a price comparable to casement windows.
